The possibilities of crafting with gourds are limitless! From cut gourds like birdhouses and potpourri bowls to fine art sculpture and rain sticks. When I hold a gourd, I can visualize the way it will look when I've completed crafting it. It seems as if the gourd knows what it wants to be.
 This bottle gourd was cut and painted. I first cut the top off and cut a hole in the bottom. Then the gourd was turned upside down and plaster of Paris was poured in for weight. A lip was fashioned from gourd parts for the lid to fit on. The lid is finished with a single row of pine needles and the jar is embellished with Jacaranda pods and porcelainized silk leaves.
