The possibilities of crafting with gourds are limitless! From cut gourds like birdhouses and potpourri bowls to fine art sculpture and rain sticks. When I hold a gourd, I can visualize the way it will look when I've completed crafting it. It seems as if the gourd knows what it wants to be.
![]() This bottle gourd was cut and painted. I first cut the top off and cut a hole in the bottom. Then the gourd was turned upside down and plaster of Paris was poured in for weight. A lip was fashioned from gourd parts for the lid to fit on. The lid is finished with a single row of pine needles and the jar is embellished with Jacaranda pods and porcelainized silk leaves.
