Mix up your own fresh shellac in the exact amount and cut what you want!

Fresh shellac dries faster, permitting the proper application of many thin coats in a short time. It also ensures that you’ll get the rich, handsome finish you want for chairs, cabinets, musical instruments, and other fine projects. Because shellac is non-toxic, it’s an ideal choice for cradles and cribs! Each Rockler Shellac Kit contains 2 oz. of shellac ''flakes’’ and a 16 oz. container with markings for accurate measurement. To create your shellac, just add the amount of denatured alcohol required for the lb. cut you prefer (denatured alcohol available at most hardware stores or paint supplies). For example 2 oz of shellac to 4 oz. of alcohol will give you a 4 lb. cut, and 2 oz. of shellac to 8 oz. of alcohol will give you a 2 lb. cut (Depending on the temperature and denatured alcohol you use, allow up to 24 hours for the shellac to dissolve.)

Kits are available in your choice of three shades: Orange, for a traditional ‘’amber’’ finish; Blonde, for a near-clear finish; and Garnet, for a more ‘’antique’’ look.

WunderCote water-based clear wood finish is the ideal finish for furniture and table tops. You'll create a hard, durable polyurethane finish that is non-yellowing and fast-drying - it can be sanded and re-coated in 60-120 minutes. Plus, WunderCote is easy to apply: simply wipe on, pad on or use foam rubber brush. Choose from semi-gloss or gloss, available in 8 oz. or 16 oz. Bottles.

WunderCote has a slight amber tint that will appear more like a varnish finish, unlike some water-based polyurethanes that tend to look like a plastic finish. Non-yellowing, hard, durable polyurethane finish is easy to apply. Can be brushed on with foam brushes, applied with sponge-type pad, or simply wipe on with lint-free cotton rag. Sam Maloof, one of America’s most accomplished woodworkers, has used these same finishes on pieces placed in museums and the White House. Sold in pint and quart size cans.

Maloof’s Poly/Oil Finish A custom blend of polyurethane varnish and natural oils developed by Sam Maloof to beautifully finish his finest pieces. Ideal for use on furniture, cabinets and millwork. Enlivens wood grain and adds warmth to it’s color. Gives your project the look of hand rubbed satin finish in half the time it takes using pumice and rottenstone. Consider using Sam Maloof's Oil/Wax for the final coat to complete the look.

Sam Maloof Oil/Wax Finish A blend of oils and waxes used as a final coat over the Sam Maloof's Poly/Oil finish to create a soft hand rubbed appearance while enlivening the wood character. Sam recommends using this topcoat on fine pieces that won't be exposed to heat or moisture. Applied with a cloth.

Specially formulated mix of pure oils, resins and driers produces a tough, durable finish on highly burnished surfaces such as turned bowls and vases. Non-toxic once dried. May be applied to surfaces that come in to contact with food. Water and abrasion resistant. May be applied with cloth or brush.

Danish oil is unique because its high linseed oil content and its colorant (gilsonite) allow it to penetrate and color unlike pigmented stains.

Danish oil is unique because its high linseed oil content and its colorant (gilsonite) allow it to penetrate and color unlike pigmented stains. Gilsonite is a mined ore, which comes only in a black walnut color. It is different from pigments, which come from earth clays. Danish oil's best use is on oak where the walnut colors are carried deep into the grain and produce a look that pigments cannot match. The linseed oil in Danish oil dries to a durable finish and can be used as a one-can finish; more coats help build durability. However, for more protection, Danish oil can be top coated with Arm-r-Seal or any other high quality oil based urethane finish. These pure urethanes penetrate and preserve the natural look as well producing a much harder finish.
